Family activities
And funYoung and old will find plenty to occupy their days by alternating between water, nature, and cultural activities!
Need to gain some height? Nothing beats a hike to the Dent du Chat, which stands at 1,390 meters above sea level! There are numerous starting points: for beginners, starting from the relay station reduces the walk to 30 minutes without major difficulties.
For the more experienced hikers, the hike can start from the Col du Chat. You’ll be walking through the woods for most of the 7.8 km route. The arrival at the summit will be worth your efforts: a breathtaking 360° view!
For a family outing with the little ones, opt for the Filéas trail! This walk under the trees invites you to help Filéas save the fairy Mélusine from the witch Carabosse. It’s a great moment to discover the trees of the forest while having fun.
Try the via ferrata experience! The Roc du Cornillon route is open to the general public (though caution is advised for those with a fear of heights). You’ll be navigating a rock face with Lake Bourget as a backdrop, a beautiful setting to enjoy the moment.
Leave your vehicle at the pass and allow 30 minutes for the approach. If you are new to this activity, we recommend you be accompanied; several providers in the area are qualified to introduce you to the best practices!
Heritage
architecturalA testament to the importance of Bourget, Thomas II Castle was the residence of the House of Savoy during the 14th century. It was an ideal place for hunting and fishing.
The site experienced many vicissitudes and numerous successive owners who sold everything that could be sold. It was only in the 1990s that the site began its slow rehabilitation thanks to the help of the State, the Region, and the department.
A comfortable walkway has been created from the beach parking lot to access the site and its surroundings: the Egrets Observatory. It allows the general public to get close to the castle and access a protected natural area. We thank you for respecting the site during your visit.
The observatory is an opportunity to introduce the youngest visitors to the observation of marsh wildlife. Stay quiet, be a little patient, and you will surely have the chance to see a great crested grebe or a bird nesting nearby. Accessible all year round, there are no excuses not to stop by!
The town center also has a place worth visiting: the Priory and its gardens. It was founded in the 11th century, around 1030. It consists of a Gothic church, a Romanesque crypt, and convent buildings, as well as gardens laid out in both the French and English styles.
The site can only be visited through guided tours, but the gardens are open to the general public all year round. There, you will find various plant species and two sculptures by Jacques Coquillay: “Corinne” and “Vagabondage.”
