Parc des Thermes
Located in the city-centre, the Parc des Thermes provides one of the most beautiful walks in the city, with its 100-year-old trees and a variety of blooms every season.
Description
Formerly the private château of the Marquis d’Aix, this park was first developed in 1866, and then again in the 1930s, following the extension of the Thermes des Pétriaux - the collection of buildings, kiosques, restaurants and Promenoir des Sources that give this park its art deco feel. After the Second World War, the Promenoir des Sources was transformed into an open-air theatre, whilst preserving the original structure. The park contains beautiful varieties of trees, including lime, cedar and sycamore, to provide shade. The garden changes with the seasons, and a special theme is chosen each summer by the Service des Parcs et Jardins. The Service ensures that the garden is cultivated using environmentally-friendly processes, for example by choosing plants that need less water, and not using pesticides or herbicides. In 2012 and 2017, the town received the prestigious ‘Fleur d’Or’ for its flowers. The park is part of the Inventaire supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques.
